For more than three decades, Anita Taylor has been making charcoal drawings that explore the relationship of the female subject (as artist and model) and the defining acts of scrutiny, gaze and feeling. This interrogation of gesture and expression has led to a sequence of drawings that question not just the appearance, but the emotional or haptic sensation of being inside a skin or body that can only be seen or recognised by the self with the aid of a mirror.

Anita Taylor has exhibited widely nationally and internationally, and has drawings in a number of public collections, including the V&A and the Jerwood Collection. In addition to her practice as an artist, Anita Taylor is a curator, educator and writer, and is the founding Director of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize project and Drawing Projects UK.

In Focus: Drawings by Anita Taylor is presented in the gallery, The Chief Secretary's Office, and during August is open to the public by appointment and during events. For further information about the exhibition, sales enquiries, associated events or Drawing Projects UK, please call us on 01225 767993 or email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
